Sunday Session

I've been at work all week and people come in and tell me how big the river is. Even though it was cold it was good to find out the river was still high today. Paul and Claire were up this weekend so Paul and I got a trip up to Stanley for a bit of a session on the wee ec. The river was showing 8ft on the SEPA gauge at Ballathie.

We had to use a rope to get upstream of the wave to make it easier to get on.
Me on the wave.

Paul on the wave.

Thanks Claire for coming out in the cold to take the shots.

Sunday High

The Tay is still high although not as high as it has been we still managed to get out on the water yesterday and enjoy the water levels. It wasn't too cold for December anyway. The rain is set to come in again this week so we should see some more high levels again. I still need to get my truck built though.

Autumn to Winter

Over the last month or 2 we have had loads of leaves falling from the trees next to the shop. This morning I came in to work and saw the last leave on the tree. It is definately winter now.

Favourite Shot

I was asked recently what my favourite shot I've every taken was. I think kayaking wise it has to be this one of Mikey Abbot running a drop in Italy. Allan Ellard was taking video. Bob Campbell was taking stills as well. The cool thing is was that after this shot was taken bob and I jumped in a hire car and headed to the airport to fly home. Awesome time.

It's Daves Birthday today. Dave and his wife Jude came back from India and 6 weeks travelling yesterday. They have come back from warm weather to cold wet weather here in Perth. Anyway we are heading up to see them tonight in Aberfeldy. Happy Birthday Dave.

My Favourite River

I've been day dreaming today. The weather is still wet and I'm looking forward to my day off on Sunday. I've been thinking about my favourite River Braan. This is my all time favourite run. I even got married at the take out in July this year.

It has everything. An adventurous get in. You have to lower your boats into the gorge and climb down. Above are pictures of the climb in and once you get on the water. It has smooth tricky rapids and Coffin Fall at the end of the run always gets you going. These pictures were taken earlier this year after the Liquid Life event. Check out www.liquidlife.co.uk for details of the event.

The top picture was taken by Ben White and the bottom shot is Ben paddling Coffin Fall with myself taking a shot from the left bank. Jamie Burbeck took the shot. Below you can see the shot I got of Ben.

Thanks to Jamie for this shot of me running Coffin Falls.

Not long before I'll be there again.

River Tay in Flood

Well the River Tay is in a flood state right now. Unfortunately this is all I here from paddlers as they come in the shop. I'm stuck here dreaming about the Thistlebrig Wave. I dug this pic out from earlier this year when it was at the same high level. Might have to do a night mission this week.

Off Road in Crieff

I got the chance to help set up the SORC RTV (Road Tax Vehicle Trial) and Comp Safari with SORC Competition Secretary Bob Webster last Friday. It was a damp wet day but it was great fun. Bob had a bit of a moment in his Challenge 90. Luckily for the competitors this was not a section for the trial. I had to work on the day of the RTV but I was back to enjoy and marshal the Comp on the Sunday.

I had to play support vehicle to Alan and Ian in their custom built Suzuki Racer. The racer had been away for a few months to get fixed after the last event and unfortunately got a bit to wet during this one, they couldn't get it running again after a big water splash and had to retire. Good luck next time boys.

Our Wedding

July 15th 2006 saw me and Jax getting married up at the Hermitage. One of my favourite places on the planet. It was an awesome day surrounded by friends and family. Thankyou to everyone who was there and made it a very special day. Thankyou especially to my best man Craig as well as Phil, Ali and Tony for making sure everything ran smoothly.
